If you have a negative entry on your ChexSystems report, it can be hard to get a standard checking account with a traditional bank in Utah. ChexSystems is the preferred method to screen new applications for a vast majority of banks.
Unfortunately, once you have a record, it stays with you regardless of your financial situation. To get around this, you need to find a bank that either does not use ChexSystems or instead offers a second chance checking account.
Alternatives to ChexSystems include Telecheck and Early Warning Systems (EWS). Some banking institutions even go further by only requiring a credit report check or two forms of ID.
Second chance checking accounts are offered by banks that use ChexSystems but are designed to give people a fresh start. They usually have a low monthly fee as well as a low minimum deposit.
