Adams County Bank
You just need a valid form of ID to open an account with Adams County Bank. They three separate checking options to choose from E-Checking, Regular Checking, and Super Now Checking.
The E-Checking account comes with the lowest balance threshold of $500 to avoid the monthly fee. If your balance drops below that, you’ll pay $3 per month, plus $0.30 for each debit over the first 30.
There are also several savings account options to choose from. Adams County Bank can be found at two branch locations in Nebraska: Kenesaw and Juniata.
Bruning State Bank
Bruning State Bank runs a credit check to approve new applications for accounts. The three options include Country Free, Country Plus Interest, and Country Gold.
Take a look at the Country Free account, which comes with a free ATM card or Visa debit card. There’s no monthly charge, nor is there a minimum balance requirement. You do, however, need a minimum deposit of $50 to get started.
Other perks include unlimited check writing, free online and mobile banking, bill pay, and ATM access at BSB machines. You must keep your account active. Otherwise, you’ll be subject to a $5 monthly fee after 12 months of inactivity.
Locations include Bruning, Hebron, Broken Bow, Holdrege, and Kearney, Nebraska.
Butte State Bank
Butte State only requires a credit check to approve new applicants. You can choose from Primary, Prime, and Premier Checking accounts. The Primary account has no monthly service fee if you keep your balance at $500 or higher.
They’ll also process 20 checks for free with this account, and each additional one comes with a $0.15 charge. If you’re a full-time student or 65 years or older, you won’t pay any fees at all.
All accounts come with a MasterCard debit card. You can manage your debit card with the CardValet app, which offers transaction alerts and can turn off your card if it’s lost or stolen.

Citizens State Bank
Instead of ChexSystems, Cass County State uses Telecheck to evaluate new applicants. They have five different options for checking.
The standard account is called Dream Builders Plus. You’ll need an opening balance of $100, but there’s no monthly maintenance fee. You can earn interest if you do keep your balance above $300.
They offer standard online banking features such as bill pay and mobile banking. You can also use Popmoney for person-to-person payments. Two branch locations can be found in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
Central National Bank
You can qualify for a second chance account called New Opportunity Checking at Central National Bank. The minimum deposit is just $30, and you’ll pay a monthly fee of $9.99.
If you enroll in direct deposit, you can get that lowered to $7.99 a month. Plus, there’s no minimum balance you need to meet.
Perks include online and mobile banking, free e-statements, and unlimited check writing. Their online platform, MoneyCentral, helps you manage your finances better by creating a budget and tracking your savings goals.
Central National Bank has Nebraska branches in Omaha, Lincoln, and Superior.
Farmers State Bank
Instead of ChexSystems, Farmers State uses Telecheck to determine eligibility for a checking account. There are four options available: Free Kasasa Cash Checking, Free Kasasa Cash Back Checking, Check Point Free Checking, and Checking Plus.
The simplest option is Check Point Free Checking, which has no monthly maintenance fee or minimum balance. It does, however, require a $100 minimum deposit to get started.
You get your first box of checks for free with this account, plus unlimited monthly transactions and digital banking services. These include online banking and bill pay, mobile banking and deposit, and online statements.

First Nebraska Bank
You’ll need a minimum credit score of 600 to qualify for checking with First Nebraska Bank. Options include Performance Checking, Advantage Checking, Simple Checking, and Prime Checking.
To get started, consider Simple Checking, which comes with no minimum balance and a low monthly fee of $3. You do need $100 to deposit into your account at the beginning. But you can get cash back rewards benefits with this account, which gives it a competitive edge.
First Nebraska Bank has ten branch locations throughout the state. They can be found in Emerson, Stanton, Decatur, Arcadia, Columbus, Valley, Brainard, Weeping Water, Bennet, and Nebraska City. Online banking is also available and includes Popmoney, mobile deposit, and more.
Heritage Bank
Heritage Bank uses a simple credit check to evaluate new applications, rather than performing a ChexSystems review. Once approved, you can choose from several checking account options.
Their most popular account is Cash Back Banking. The minimum deposit is $100, but there’s no minimum balance required. The account comes with a $6 monthly fee, but you can get it reduced by $0.25 for each debit card transaction you post every month. So, if you use your debit card at least 24 times, your monthly fee could be completely waived.
Your debit card is free with this account, as is bill pay, e-statements, and online banking. You also get mobile banking, which comes with remote check deposit.

There’s no monthly maintenance fee, nor is there a required minimum deposit or minimum balance. It’s easy to get started with this account. Plus, it comes with a free debit card and unlimited check writing.
Other benefits include online banking and bill pay, e-statements, and a monthly shred day at Trius Federal Credit Union. Depending on your history, you may also be eligible for overdraft protection.
