Dakota Plains Federal Credit Union
Dakota Plains Federal is a non-ChexSystems bank. To screen new applications, they instead run both an OFAC and TeleCheck report. They have locations in Lemmon, Bison, Pierre, and Faith County.
A share draft checking account doesn’t require a minimum balance. It comes with unlimited check writing, overdraft protection, and dividends on monthly balances over $2,500.
These dividends are paid out every quarter. There are no monthly service fees with this account, but the minimum opening deposit is $100.
Farmers and Merchants State Bank
Farmers and Merchants doesn’t use ChexSystems to screen new applications. All you need to provide when applying is a government-issued ID and a Social Security card.
However, if you wish to get a debit card, Farmers and Merchants State Bank will run a credit report. As long as you don’t have too many negative entries on your report, however, you should be able to get a debit card.
They have locations in Scotland, Plankinton, White Lake, and Huron. They have four different checking options to choose from: Free Checking, Regular Checking, Now Checking, and Super Now Checking.
Free Checking doesn’t have a minimum balance requirement or any monthly service fees. Plus, you get unlimited debit card transactions and free monthly statements. If your account remains inactive for 18 months, there’s a $10 monthly fee.
First Dakota National Bank
First Dakota National Bank is a non-ChexSystems bank. In lieu of ChexSystems, they run an Equifax credit report on each application. As long as your report doesn’t have too many negative entries on it, you may be able to open an account.
They offer various checking options to its members. These include the following:

Wells Fargo
If Wells Fargo declines you for a standard checking account, you may still qualify for their “Clear Access Banking” account.
This second chance checking account has a monthly fee of $5. The only way to avoid it is if the primary account owner is 13 – 24 years old.
There’s a minimum opening deposit of $25. You get access to online bill pay, mobile banking, and over 13,000 ATMs free of charge.
